Organic Garden Volunteer Program

The application period for the 2017-2018 season has closed. We are no longer accepting applications. Please check back in April 2018 for information on next year.

The bio-intensive vegetable garden of the future Patagonia National Park aims to supply fresh food to workers and visitors of the Park, demonstrating that inspired by nature, it is possible to practice productive, sustainable and economically efficient agriculture. We work inspired by methods of bio intensive agriculture such as "maraîchage," permaculture and regenerative agriculture. Every week of the season, we deliver shares to families and also to park rangers when possible.

Each season is carefully planned, either to meet local consumption needs or to maintain the natural balance within the garden. We manufacture our own compost to enrich the soil. We record all the work we do, and also everything we harvest, generating useful public access information.

Your participation will allow the people who work and visit the park to have access to fresh food of the highest quality, produced in a beautiful place that respects nature. It is a dream that we are building year after year.

The work in the garden is very diverse, but sometimes there are tasks that take more than a day and can be monotonous. Preparing the soil is a very energy demanding job. Harvesting, transplanting and weeding requires being squatted for several hours a day, if you have back problems this job is not for you. We try to alternate hard work with lighter jobs such as preparing seedlings, watering, harvesting vegetables and flowers.

Volunteers must be prepared to spend their entire stay at the West Winds campsite, which is a 30 minute walk from the garden, so you should have a good sleeping bag (at least -9 ° C), a mat and a tent. The campsite has baths and showers with hot water (solar powered) and some covered shelters.
